Runway Inspired Challenge #71 – In Memory of Oscar de la Renta

Hey everyone! Happy Tuesday!

It’s time for another Runway Inspired Challenge! I so love creating for these!!

Today’s challenge is a bit of a special one.

You may or may not have heard the sad news that Oscar de la Renta, a hugely talented and influential fashion designer sadly passed away recently. I’ve always loved his work and admired his eye for beauty in his designs. There will never be another like him and he will be sorely missed.

In honour of his memory, Jen and I came up with an idea for today’s challenge where each one of the DT has picked their favourite piece from his most recent, and final, collection, to use as inspiration.

Here’s what I chose:

Okay, I have to confess: everything in Oscar’s final collection was just breathtakingly beautiful, and as you can see I couldn’t just choose one.

Here’s what I came up with for the first design:

I love how this turned out!!

I started with two pieces of vellum. On the first I randomly stamped various blooms from the WPlus9 more Fresh Cuts set using a mix of SU! inks in Real Red and Tangerine Tango.

I then overlaid the second piece of vellum and stamped more blooms from the same set, and the stems and flowers from PTI’s Four of a Kind set, using Distress Inks in Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive for the stems, and GinaK White Pigment ink and Studio Calico ink in Sunny Day. I added some white dots from the More Fresh Cuts set.

For the sentiment I turned to the Studio Calico Buttercup stamp set and stamped it with Versafine Onyx Black ink before heat embossing with Filigree Black embossing powder. I used Scor-Tape and Pinflair Glue Gel to adhere the vellum layers to my Pure White card base to complete the first card!

And now, here’s what I came up with for the second design:

Again loving this!

I started with another panel of vellum and stamped it repeatedly with the large stamp from PTI’s Lace Bouquet set using Versamark ink then heat embossed with Ancient Gold embossing powder in Gilded Gold.

I blended Distress Ink in Tattered Rose over the back of the vellum then adhered my panel to a Pure White card base.

To finish, I stamped the sentiment from WPlus9’s Valentine Wishes set using Versamark and heat embossed with WOW! Metallic Gold Rich Pale embossing powder and adhered over the original design using Multi Matte Medium and I was all done!

So anyway, now I’m all done squealing and monkey clapping with excitement and all the rest of it, you definitely want to check out what the rest of the DT have come up with!!
