Winnie & Walter 4th Birthday Bash Blog Hop Celebrating Love and Friendship – And A Giveaway!

By Taheerah | 16th February 2018 | 99 Comments

Hi everyone! Happy Friday!

We had one (commercialised) celebration of love this week. But if, like me, you don’t really buy into Valentine’s Day and you believe that love is a series of actions that should be demonstrated every day, then Wednesday would have just been a normal everyday kinda day. True love is something that should be expressed every day in a thousand little ways and some big ways too when you can squeeze them in!

It’s with that spirit that I set about creating something for the Winnie & Walter 4th Birthday Bash Hop which could be used for those little expressions of love, and that don’t wait to rely on a contrived reason to be used:

Love Notes Mini Cards by Taheerah Atchia

I made a cute series of little love notes! I love these babies!

I used some of the handmade marble backgrounds that I created with nail polish last year for The Gossip Column with Taheerah Atchia | No. 6 – Marble. I’d created several different backgrounds and not used them all, instead squirrelling them away for something special. Like these.

Gotta love those all that sparkly goodness!

So, I’m betting you’d like to know a little more about how these were created, along with some more photo goodness, amirite? Read on!

After I dug out a couple of my backgrounds, created with gold, rose gold, and violet tones, I die cut them into hearts using the True Dotty Heart Cutaways, using the heart shape with the little pierced dot detail.

I folded a piece of A2 cardstock in half at 2.75″ and then die cut the heart again, with the left edge of the die hanging off the side of the fold, so I could create a shaped card. I cut a corresponding heart from Rustic White cardstock to keep everything tidy at the back – no-one likes seeing all those ‘veins’ from your worn cutting plates on the back of a design!

I wanted my notes to stand-up unaided, and the lovely fine cursive ‘love’ from the In a Word: Love Coordinating Cutaways went so perfectly with the design and works to prop up the hearts too! I created my own glitter paper using Nuvo Glimmer Paste then die cut the words. I die cut a corresponding one from Rustic White cardstock to go on the back too!

The fronts and backs of the card were adhered to their bases with Scor-Tape. The words were adhered using Multi Matte Medium – first working out the angle that the words should be to enable the card to stand before pressing down to adhere in place.

I kept the insides blank, ready to write little love notes to my beau and leave them in random places in the house at random times. See what I mean about those thousands of little actions?

I hope you’ve loved looking at these as much as I have! Personally I can’t put them down!

  1. This is such a creative technique and I live it.I completely agree about VD it’s the little things all the time.Beautiful creativity.

  2. So pretty ! What a great use of the nail polish marbled paper. I love how you engineered a solution to make the hearts stand up.

  3. These are absolutely stunning Taheerah. The love die is ‘lovely’ in the gold glitter paper, especially on your beautiful marbled paper. You are so right about Valentines “DAY”…. Love should be celebrated EVERYDAY in small, more meaningful ways and forget about the one BIG day!

  4. These heart cards are beautiful! I would never have thought to use the word dies to make the card stand up. So clever!

  5. Funny, but I think about Valentine’s day the opposite. Used to be sort of Ho-hum for me as the romantic alliances have been few and far between, but now I love it because it gives me an excuse to remind each member of my family how much I love them. I kind of learned it from my daughter-in-love–a few words of affirmation go a really long way. And this year…one of my grand-girls sent me a list of “what I love about Mimi”! So–no romance, but a lot of love and I am still smiling! (And I like your all occasion love cards too! I am blessed to have a family that freely expresses love and appreciation for each other!)

  6. Hey Taheerah! Well, of course you know that I love your collection of marbled hearts! But, I must say that I’m particularly impressed with two things: 1) that you cut an additional heart to hide the cut lines from the die cutter, that is so you to pay attention to those details and not be lazy about anything, and 2) that they stand up because of the sentiment! So smart!!

  7. I adore your love notes, Taheerah! They are so elegant and classy just like you are! Thank you so much for joining in on celebrating our birthday bash and sharing the spirit of love and friendship with us all.

  8. I remember that fabulous Gossip Column with your awesome marble backgrounds. So glad to see these show up again…..and used to such gorgeous advantage!! These cards are just stunning. So beautiful.

I had to laugh at your description of the “veins” on the back of our die cuts from worn cutting pads!! I am still on my original set and they are sooooooo scarred and pitted up. Sometimes I have to slip an extra piece of thin paper in my sandwich to protect sensitive cuts from getting veins. I do have an extra-long set of cutting pads that I don’t use very much…..and I notice that they cut a lot cleaner than my old battle-worn ones. I guess I need to buy a new set of the regular ones. (sigh)

  9. Can something be cute and beautiful at the same time? I think so! Because your little mini heart cards are! I love the backgrounds and the shape… and the tiny size just makes them adorable!! How fun to use these as little love notes!
