Vintage Meets Modern Meets Doily

Hey – I’m, having a giveaway! Click here for more details!

Hey everyone! Happy Saturday!

I decided to create one of those ‘from scratch’ cards. You know, where I go to ridiculous lengths to create the whole thing from scratch when there could be easier ways? Yeah, one of those. I love stretching myself in this way though!

So I saw these adorable doilies on Pinterest today:

I loved how they had flowers on them, and looked delicate and vintage. I decided to create one of my own, but to make it an extra challenge, also use it on a modern looking card!

Here’s what I came up with:

What do you think? I love how this turned out!!

I started by die cutting my doily from Rustic White cardstock using the Parisian Lace Doily Die. I then stamped the flowers from Valentine Wishes, Fresh Cut Florals and More Fresh Cuts, all from WPlus9, using a variety of inks. I used Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick, Broken China, Mustard Seed, Shaded Lilac and Bundled Sage, and Mama Elephant inks in Blush, Bubblegum and Lollipop.

I blended Distress Inks in Old Paper and Antique Linen over it and at the edges to give it that vintage feel, spritzed with water then dried with my heat tool. Once this was all done I stamped the sentiment from the Kelly Purkey I Like You set using Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamping off once to give it a more authentic look.

Next, the woodgrain! This could have been woodgrain paper, or patterned paper. But no. I decided to create it from scratch! I used the Hero Arts Designer Woodgrain stamp, inked with Distress Inks in Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, Brushed Corduroy and Gathered Twigs, misted with water, then stamped onto Rustic White cardstock. I then blended over it with Tea Dye, Brushed Corduroy, Gathered Twigs and Pumice Stone ink, misted with water, heat set, then blended in a little more to give that worn look.

I impressed a few times with the Linen & Canvas Impression plate too, phew! I die cut the little hearts from it using the Embellished Tag die collection – the bonus being I now have some teeny tiny woodgrain hearts to use on something else – love!

I adhered some washi tape and a flag cut from Rustic White cardstock and inked with Lollipop ink, attached using my Tiny Attacher, then added some May Arts Metallic Silver String before adhering my doily using Pinflair Glue Gel. I prepared a Rustic White card base and added a strip of Scor Tape before coating with a custom mix of Martha Stewart glitters, before finally adhering my panel in place.

A lot of work but well worth it I think!

That’s it from me for today but I’ll be back soon with the last Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge of the year! I would love it if you left some love before you went on your way! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Also– you have got to tell me how you are taking your photos! I was just thinking of doing something similar (probably wouldn't turn out like yours)…. I need to try something more professional! LOL! YOU ROCK <3
