Tuesday Trigger – Elegant Emerald

Hey everyone! I hope you’ve had a great weekend so far!

I thought I would play along with the latest Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger today. Here’s what we had to work with:

My first thought when I saw this? Ruffles! The second thought? Complicated!! Third thought? As Ben Folds Five sing, do it anyway!

I thought about this idea quite a bit before I set to work on it. I even sketched it – very rare for me! Anyway, this was what I ended up with:

What do you think? I know it’s rather over-the-top, but I think that’s in keeping with the inspiration photo, don’t you?

This was another one of those ‘labour of love’ type-cards. I spent pretty much a day on it. Every item on this is made from scratch. Well, apart from the black netting fabric/simay. I can’t make fabric. Yet.

I started with some pale mint green tissue paper and sprayed sprayed sprayed with different coloured mists. I used Heidi Swapp’s Colour Shine Mist in Mint Green, and Mint Choc Chip Chalkboard Glimmer Mist. After this I took the flowers from Cutting Garden and stamped them using New Leaf and Ripe Avocado inks, and also with my Heidi Swapp Mist, and with Mister Huey’s Calico White. I spritzed the tissue with water to soften the stamped images and repeated again in some places using one of the flowers from Wildflower Garden. You might not be able to make out too much of the detail in the photos but trust me, it’s there!

I then trimmed my paper into strips and adhered them as ruffles to my Stamper’s Select White card base using strips of Scor-Tape. I had already adhered my simay fabric to my card base using Scor-Tape as well. I added a strip of cardstock that I had heat embossed with WOW! Metallic Rich Gold Pale embossing powder, and some branches I had stamped from Out On A Limb Revised using Versamark ink and heat embossed in the same manner. The branches were adhered using Pinflair Glue Gel.

I then took some blue tissue paper and sprayed to recolour as before, this time using Heidi Swapp Colour Mist in Tropicana Teal and Cornflower Blue Chalkboard Glimmer Mist. I cut the paper into lots of squares, rounded 3 of the corners of the squares, then assembled my tissue paper rose. This was adhered to the base using Pinflair Glue Gel.

I made my blue feather from the same paper, and my black feather was cut from black tissue paper and spritzed with Heidi Swapp Colour Shine Mist in Black Velvet, just so it would shimmer. My feathers are adhered with Pinflair as well.

Finally, for my sentiment, I cut a tag using the Tag Sale #7 die, trimmed off the pinked edge and stamped with a sentiment Mama Elephant’s Say What set. This was heat embossed with my gold powder before splattering on some Gold Lame Colour Shine Mist. The tag was adhered in place with Pinflair and finally I was done!

Phew! What a lot of work! lol. I hope you like it though! I would certainly love to know what you think of it!

Well, it’s back to the craft room for me! What does the rest of your weekend hold in store? Thanks so much for stopping by – I would love it if you left some love before you went on your way!

  2. Oh my, oh me!! This is Glamorous!! I don't know where to begin!
Well first of all, I love handmade flowers so of course I was curious to know how you made it…and the fact that you assembled it petal by petal…just WOW!! I absolutely love all the elements and their arrangement, but more so how you created each element! How awesome that you have all these different colored tissue paper which you modified with all these yummy colored mists! The gold branches and the tag with gold sentiment is the cherry on top; perfectly placed and gives the perfect shine. I am seriously in love with this beauty! It has put my card into the deep shadows! 😀

  3. HEEEEYYYYY NUTTY LADY! Hahaha, I've been waiting since, well, Tuesday, to see what would be posted here! I just KNEW it was going to be over the top. Madness! Love all of your layers of color, all the handmade elements, and especially those feathers. I wanna see the bird that left that bright blue feather! Also appreciate with how much this card has going on, the sentiment is still the focal point. Well done, Taheera!!

  4. This is definitely over the top, Taheerah!! It's the most ornate tag that I have ever seen! And yeah, "Sexy Lady" is right! Your ruffle creation is gorgeous and way to use up those issue paper! The added feathers really echos the interpretation beautifully! This tag truly shows off your BIG talent! Way to rock the TT!!!

  5. Well… this is so amazing I can barely stand it. Totally worth the wait. If it was only about the sheer beauty of this piece, but gosh, woman! You knocked it outta the park with techniques!! I can only dream of such devotion to paper, makes me feel puny! lol
