Runway Inspired Challenge #30 – Erdem

By Taheerah | 1st March 2013 | 14 Comments

Hey everyone! Happy Friday!! I hope you’re all having a great day!!

Well, the other night I ended up creating a card for the latest Runway Inspired Challenge – but I hadn’t intended to, lol! I guess I was just inspired!

Gorgeous dresses! No wonder I had to make something for it!! I missed the last challenge out as I was licking my wounds for not winning the challenge before taking a quick break, but this felt like the perfect opportunity to get back in the saddle!

I was drawn more to the dress on the right, and that was what led me to create this:

Hmmm – I’m not 100% certain on this card, lol!! The flower clusters bug me, I don’t think they’re balanced well enough! But I can’t for the life of me figure out how to better place them! It’s driving me crazy!!

So I’ve left it as-is and will just talk you through my process instead, lol. 🙂

I started with a panel of Golden Tiara cardstock and ran it through my Big Shot with the Linen & Canvas Impression Plate, inking up the plate with Versafine Onyx Black ink first to impart that black fibres look! I then sliced up my panel into a variety of sizes and adhered to my True Black card base using Scor-Tape.

Next came all the flowers! I stamped them from the Mini Blooms set onto Stamper’s Select White cardstock using Hero Arts Butter Bar ink, A:Muse inks in Blueberry, Cobalt, Sage, Grapefruit, Shell, Burano and Cherry, and PTI Hibiscus Burst ink. Lots of inks!

I then trimmed them all out and adhered to the base using Pinflair Glue Gel. I must be one of the few out there who own a die set and yet still choose to trim out images by hand(!)!!

Finally I added the sentiment, from Irresistibly Ikat using Versamark ink and heat embossed with Filigree Black embossing powder. I love how this turned out – I was a little nervous it wouldn’t stand out enough against the panel!!

Well, that’s it from me for now! But stay tuned as I just *might* be back later with another sneaky sneak of information about StampSpotlight!! Thanks so much for stopping by – I would love it if you left some love before you head on your way!

  1. I was curious how you made this card. I'm glad you shared your secrets! Such a unique result and perfect take on the inspiration photo! So glad you joined us over at the Runway Inspired Challenge!

  2. You and that impression plate must be best friends! I love what you did with it last time, and I love what you did with it this time! Thanks for joining us on the Runway! 🙂

  3. Super cool! I love what you did with this card, my first thought was that you have to win this challence – because no card can be better! Love the texture, love the image, love the colours and those small flowers just fit perfect – and the sentiment has the right font! The balance on this card is tricky to say the least, but you nailed that too!

  4. Taheerah, this card is SO SO amazing! I agree with Virginia, it should be framed! I am in awe at how much it resembles the yellow outfit! You have done a terrific job! LOVE the random quadrilaterals with the random flowers. This card is simply Awesome!!

  5. This card should.be.framed.PERIOD. I think it's like a piece wall art that you created, so edgy and graphic yet the flowers also give such a soft touch to the design. Do not ever doubt yourself! I think all your entries are all winning-worthy, Sometimes what I picked as winner may not get other DT's votes! That tells you how HARD it is to judge!! Seriously, just keep them coming, Taheerah!

  6. Dear Ms. Paper Crafts February Gallery Winner,

You are nutty for cutting out all those flowers when you have a die for them. Really nutty. But, that's exactly what I love about you. You are so passionate about your craft that it's infectious. I hope you never loose that quality. It definitely shows in your work.

    xoxo,
    Kinda Nutty

  7. Are you kidding me? You're not 100% sure about this card? Well, I am! It's 100% cool, striking and totally innovative. I love your inky experiments, the letterpressing results with the canvas & linen plate are amazing! And the scattered flowers are perfect and really help the eye move across the card.
Have a lovely weekend, Taheerah 🙂
