Inspired by Lichtenstein

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday!

So, as soon as I saw the Ka-Pow set from The Alley Way Stamps, I knew I had to had it. Pop culture, comic book styling – how could I say no?!

I knew when I saw it that I wanted to create something that mimicked one of my favourite pop artists – Lichtenstein. I loved learning about his work when I took a short course in History of Art, and saw a lot of his work exhibited last year in Chicago when I was there, and it was a thoroughly amazing exhibit.

I selected this favourite work to emulate:

And this is what I came up with:

What do you think? Lichtenstein I am not, but I am pretty happy with this overall!

I started with a Stamper’s Select White card base and stamped a few different images from the Ka-Pow set using Hero Arts Navy ink. I used quite a lot of masking to achieve my look. With hindsight though, I would have drawn the cloud shapes rather than using part of one of the stamps – the shape would have just been closer to the original.

No matter – onwards and upwards! I used Copic Markers to shade and colour portions of the design, and added the lines as well. I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set, trimmed it out and adhered to the base with Pinflair Glue Gel. I figured I could employ some artistic license and add a sentiment. 🙂

Well, that’s it from me for today! I do hope you’ll leave some love before you go on your way! Thanks so much for stopping by!
