Goodbye My Sweet Beautiful Boy

Hi everyone. I hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday.

Today we laid my beautiful Leo to rest, peacefully at home. It had taken a while to get everything just right and ready, and today ended up being that day. And as if the Heavens knew we were blessed with fine weather, and a quiet, peaceful day.

I wanted to share a couple of things that I’d prepared for Leo to accompany him:

So it’s not a card as such, but it is a notecard that I lovingly prepared. I created something very similar for Lyra last year too.

I started with one of my favourite photos of my boy that captured his beautiful sweet face perfectly.

After printing it out and trimming it to size I stamped the sentiment and paw print from With Sympathy: Loss of a Pet using Stazon ink. I then mounted the photo onto thin mats of Fine Linen and Rustic White cardstock.

On the back I wrote the following poem which I penned:

You chose me
To be your special one
Fell asleep upon my lap
I knew I’d be your Mum

You chose me
Growing up so big and strong
Each year more handsome
My very precious son

You chose me
To laugh with and to play
To cuddle and to love
Each and every day

You chose me
To care for, to take care
So many treasured memories
A love we’ll always share

My sweet beautiful boy
I’ve been so very blessed
To have you, to treasure you
You were more than just a pet

Thank you for choosing me my beautiful boy

The beautiful wood and brass plaque you see this notecard displayed on is the lid of Leo’s handmade coffin (made by a professional, of course, not by my own hands). Only the best for my boy.

The inscription says ‘Your paw prints will remain echoed on our souls’.

I wanted to end this post by just mentioning some of the things that I loved about Leo and that made him so unique and special:

Leo loved eating. So much so that he would purr as he ate.
Leo loved cheese. He always loved eating grated cheese when I was making a cheese omelette. He learned to recognise the signs of this and would come running even when he heard me cracking the eggs!
Leo had the most expressive gestures and positioning of his front legs/paws that I have ever seen in a cat. Some examples:

His sweet, beautiful face. The sweetest face of any boy I’ve ever seen.
The way he would come and sit next to me and push his head under my arm to get my attention.
His big heart.

Leo you will always be loved and you will never be forgotten. I miss you so much my beautiful sweet-faced boy.

Thank you all for reading my tribute to my boy. I don’t usually post personal things on here but I just felt I had to this time. I’m sorry for the sombre post. It will be less depressing around here from now on, I promise.

Thanks for stopping by, friends.

  1. So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures of your boy with us. He was very handsome. Now you have a guardian angel looking over your shoulder.
May God bless you in these days to come and in every day.

  2. So sorry for your loss Taheerah. I'm sitting here balling looking over at my three sweet fur babies! Giving them lots of love and kisses today on behalf of your sweet kitty. From the sounds of it, he was a lucky, well loved kitty.

  3. What a beautiful tribute to your beloved Leo. It brought tears to my eyes because only those who have been touched by a special animal understand the depth of feelings we feel for them. My heart goes out to you.

  5. If you're like me at all, when people have broken my heart, really crushed it, animals have healed it.

What a beautiful tribute to your boy. To earn the love and trust of an animal is an honor that too many take lightly. Leo obviously picked the right Momma 🙂

The photo, poem and marker plate are so fitting to remember him by. I'm so sorry for your loss, but happy that Leo chose you. Sending hugs and purrs from Rosie your way. <3
